Friends of Ours.

Hello, and welcome to It’s Jou Life! We’re Wayne and Jennifer, a (relatively) newly wed couple who found love in the most unexpecting place. This is our DIY / lifestyle blog—musing about natural, healthy, artisanal living, and everything in between.

We started this blog because our family and friends always ask us how we grow our own organic vegetables, what is Wayne woodworking on now, to send over our miso black cod recipe, what snacks stock our pantry, a tutorial on that cute zippered pouch, tips for marathon running, where do we worship, what to bring for a camping trip, what’s Jennifer’s skincare regimen… you get the idea. This is our way to share life’s loves.

Wayne of all trades is an engineer by day and a woodworker/gardener/chef by night. Jennifer is an activist, artist, actress, and an alliterations addict. You would often find us dancing to our own beat, exploring the great outdoors, at home watching Netflix, and hand crafting everything we own. We find the beauty in our every day, with each other, and in the Lord our Savior.

We both live to create with purpose and hopes to inspire. Thank you for joining us as we try to do all things with love. Here is a glimpse into our quirky lives.

Yosemite, my happy place // travel

2015 Mtn3

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. – John Muir

Lately I’ve been itching to go camping and wanting to go to explore the Sequoias or Yellowstone. I’ve always been an enthusiast of the outdoors, but it wasn’t until meeting Wayne that I started loving camping in the wilderness and hiking mountainous trails. One of my favorite feelings is connecting with nature–the early morning dew on the tent, the shy rays of light peeping through the trees, the smell of dirt, the clean, crisp air, the quietness of the midnight hour, lying on my back, star gazing.

Yosemite is a favorite travel spot. Wayne and I try to make an annual pilgrimage and we’ve created so many epic adventures there. My favorite memory is Half Dome–pulling an all nighter to climb this beauty of a rock at sunrise. It was challenging and strenuous, yet so rewarding and worth it!

Some of my favorite photos taken from over the years. { favorite video } Wong Fu Productions’ Somewhere Like This. “Across clear skies. Among glowing stars. That’s where I’ll find us.”

{ favorite event } An annual pilgrimage of indie music enthusiasts, Coachella was the place to be in April. Wayne and I joined friends for weekend 1 and it was a blast of everything amazing–old band favorites and new tune discoveries, salivating-worthy food trucks, illuminating art installations and the fashion fusion of hippies & hipsters. { favorite snack } I love chocolate. I may even love it more than sleep. My recent discovery are Chuao Chocolatier, gourmet handcrafted chocolates that come in amazing bars like Potato Chip, Maple Bacon, Honeycomb and my ultimate favorite, Firecracker. Firecracker is packed with sultry sea salt, smoky chipotle, and popping candy exploding in dark chocolate. They are free of hydrogenated fats, artificial preservatives, colors, sweeteners. Gotta have my mini-stash of secret chocolate…

Ocean View Farms

It’s official! We’ve fully assimilated into the Santa Monica culture now that Wayne and I have our own organic garden plot at Ocean View Farms. Located near the Santa Monica airport, there are over 500 garden plots and flower gardens that occupy six acres in the hills of Mar Vista/Santa Monica West LA.

I love this urban garden community space. We have a large 13×17 feet area to grow our own organic vegetables–before we switched plots we grew eggplant, zucchini, kale, broccoli, romanesco broccoli, peas, carrots.

On a normal day we water and often exchange garden advice with veteran members who pass by. It’s a great garden community and everyone is so friendly. We pay a small fee for annual dues and put in 12 hour community work hours a year. There is a tool shed where you can check out garden tools and wheel barrows. Water and compost is also provided!

Wayne waited 3.5 years on the list. Not sure how long it takes to get a plot now. If you plan on living around the area for the next several years, it’s worth signing up! Ocean View Farms.
So far we’ve accomplished our first goal: Make a salad entirely with fresh ingredients from our garden!

Here are some casual shots I took on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the garden.

{ Welcome to It’s Jou Life }

Hi! We’re Wayne and Jennifer, just two quirky people who found love in the most unexpecting place. This is our DIY / lifestyle blog–highlighting our smorgasbord of interests. Our friends always ask us how we grow our own organic vegetables, how did we make that cute zippered pouch, techniques for marathon training, what’s our recipe for zucchini bread, what to bring for a camping trip, what’s Jennifer’s favorite BB Cream brand? This is our way to share life’s loves.

Here’s a glimpse into our quirky lives.
